Siteware and STRATWs: Optimizing Vale’s Corporate Performance
With more than seven decades of history, Vale has become one of the world’s largest mining companies. Originally part of Brazil’s public sector, Companhia Vale do Rio Doce was privatized in 1997—bringing new challenges for Management and Corporate Performance.
As the company grew and expanded its global footprint, the demands on executive management increased. In 2005, Vale began its partnership with Siteware. With support from STRATWs One, the company strengthened its internal management processes and advanced its organizational maturity.
Today, we share how Vale’s journey with Siteware began in 2005 and continues to bear fruit—helping the company scale governance and performance across a complex operation.

What Challenges Did Vale Face?
It’s a nuanced question, given Vale’s long-standing relationship with Siteware. At the time, the company’s primary challenge was to systematize and collaborate around its management cadence while minimizing rework. Vale also needed efficient, automated data consolidation to sustain productivity and—most importantly—raise the overall maturity of routine management.
According to André Horta, Performance Management Analyst and a Vale employee for over 10 years, the company evaluated other platforms with similar proposals. However, none offered the same agility and flexibility as STRATWs One, nor the underlying philosophy of Management for Results.
André also notes that STRATWs One has evolved exponentially over the years. Today, it operates as a truly global system—robust enough to support a multinational of Vale’s scale and relevance.
The Implementation
As with any rollout of a new tool, implementation wasn’t easy—especially for frontline users. Over time, however, employees began to see the benefits, areas for improvement, and productivity gains that come with an integrated management system. As a result, the platform was progressively adopted and is now widely used across the company.
To support this transition, Vale’s executive leadership consistently shared information, trained teams, and motivated them throughout the adaptation and upskilling process—an essential step for STRATWs One to assume its strategic role within the organization.
“Resistance will always exist. But once the benefits are presented clearly, users stop seeing it as a problem and start seeing it as a solution.”
How Our Solution Helped Vale
Data consolidation, reliability, and on-time updates—these were the main benefits highlighted by André. He added that STRATWs One supports the end-to-end path from consolidating raw data to generating actionable information. The system enables trustworthy analysis and preserves the link between what’s presented and the resulting action plans, deviation treatments, and even opportunities for improvement.
Comparing a strict “before and after” at Vale is tricky. What André does point out is the clear maturity gap between areas that use the system and those that don’t. Now that the global rollout is underway, this difference is even more evident—the teams using STRATWs One are well ahead in management maturity.
Siteware and Vale Today
It’s been 15 years of partnership, with 13,000+ users in the system and 27,000+ indicators registered. Recently, Vale migrated STRATWs One to the cloud—a move that delivered substantial benefits.
According to André, since migrating to the cloud the company now receives automatic updates, enjoys higher availability, and employees’ receptiveness to the platform has increased significantly. Vale also gained access to new features that previously weren’t available.
And We’re Not Stopping Here…
After many years of shared success, the partnership between Vale and Siteware grows stronger every day. We’re proud to say that STRATWs One is Vale’s global solution for Performance. This outcome stems from a relationship built on mutual value—and we look forward to writing many more chapters together.
Ultimately, our purpose is to help companies reach healthy management maturity, so they can focus more on strategy and less on operational processes.
